Defense Against the Dark Arts
RSVO Studies Handbook
PROLOGUE
Hello! I am Professor Rogan! I am your Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor for the 2012-2013 year! I am also the Head of Carmelites house, so if you're a Carmelite, and you do good, I'd be more than happy to award housepoints! However, if you constantly mess around, I am very liable to deduct house points and issue detentions, my house or NOT! If you keep good behaviour and turn in brilliant homework, I'd be happy to give you recommendations for a good part in your house! Such as: Prefect, Head Boy/Girl, etc.
This handbook on DADA was typed up by myself, and anyone who dares to try and make an edit of it to place anyone else on the wrong track will face a punishment from the Headmaster. A|so, I must introduce my assistant: Prof. Hale! He will take you for a follow up of our lesson, where you will simply review what has happened! His tolerance meter will be exactly the same as mine, so I advise you do not treat him any different from me!
Please enjoy reading my special study book!
CHAPTER 1:
Expelliarmus
Expelliarmus is a very simple spell of disarming your opponent for whatever reason! It is one of the first spells that you will learn in the first year at RSVO School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This spell was also the one that selected the owner of the legendary: Elder Wand of the Deathly Hallows. He who casts the spell on the owner would truly own the wand. Previous owners: Albus Dumbledore, Draco Malfoy, guy-who-broke-the-elder-wand and someone who THOUGHT he owned it by murdering Severus snape-snape-severus-snape (past Hogwarts DADA professor), who murdered Albus Dumbledore, Tom Riddle.
A timeline:
Draco disarms Dumbledore
Draco now owns the wand
snape-snape-severus-snape murders Dumbledore
Harry disarms Draco (he didn't use the wand in Malfoy Manor, but still truly owned the elder wand)
he-who-must-not-be-named steals the wand, believing it his
he-who-must-not-be-named murders snape-snape-severus-snape, believing he now truly owns it
Harry duels he-who-must-not-be-named
Harry wins, now owning the wand, but snaps it
This doesn't mean that if you disarm someone's wand, you own it, it was what happened with the elder wand. This could lead to confusion as if you believe the wand is yours, you could accidentally cause havoc as you're using a wand that doesn't respond to you. This also doesn't mean it works on wands only, you can use the spell to disarm whatever is in your opponents hand! For example: a book, a staff, a quill. But do NOT use this spell for fun to act as a bully. This is to be used wisely, or it could create a scenario that causes havoc, like the elder wand...
CHAPTER 2:
Protego
Protego is also a simple spell,.but is like a base for a combo! You could use it to block any spell (except the Unforgivables, Fourth Years only) as reflect or disarm. It is a good spell to use on people who are trying to use Expelliarmus (above) to disarm you! However it's not recommended to use against people trying to help you, such as a professor trying to take you away from an evil lord, you would have to take it in order to keep yourself safe. There are many LEVELS to Protego, such as: Protego Maxima, to shield a castle, Protego Minama, to shield a group of people. This is only in a big emergency, like when the Death Eater army attacked Hogwarts in the 1998 year. The school used many defense spells, and protego maxima was one, a dome shield for the fort.
This spell is a good defense, but is not to be used in an event that is mainly to create havoc in a place, more of a defense to hold an attack to buy time to raise more alarms and gather supplies for the attack in the battle against the (perhaps relentless) enemy!
CHAPTER 3:
Locomotor Mortis
Locomotor Mortis is a spell that creates a bind around the victim's ankles, perhaps causing them to trip up! It is used sometimes as a spell made to bully people, but at RSVO there is a 0% tolerance policy on bullying, just like any other (muggle) school! One time it was used at Hogwarts was when Draco Malfoy (in his first year) used it on Neville Longbottom (Current Hogwarts herbology professor) as a mark of bullying due to him being clumsy! It is a spell I recommend to use it on people that are chasing you in a kind of threat! Any other use would be rather awkward! There is not much more to say on the spell, except DON'T TRY THIS FOR FUN! IT COULD LEAD TO BREAKING A BONE, WHISKING YOU DOWN TO THE HOSPITAL WING!.
